"Letting Loose", a multi-layer mixed media is my most recent creative adventure.
I have been on an exploration of artistic websites lately and one of you posted about sewing together multi layers of magazine pages and then painting with gesso.
I thought that was a really fun idea and NOW
I thought that was a really fun idea and NOW
I can not find that post!
If you have read this article or if you wrote it please, leave the site in a comment or email me.
I so want to reread this and try my hand at this.
"Another Journey" is another mixed media.
It was painted/drawn while watching the Diary of a Wimpy Kid with four children surrounding me at home. I'm not sure if the movie influenced me at all in the drawing but I do know that I have had a hard time focusing on serious work lately. The kids agreed that upon completion they would help me come up with a childrens story to go with the drawing.
I am sure there is a story here somewhere.
The summer is already almost over (at least for teachers) and I have hardly begun to do the things I had planned
...work on sidewalks around the house
.....design a quilt
....make a doll with my granddaughter
...make a trip to the hill country
...make a trip to the coast....make a trip anywhere!.....
...mostly paint every day
but I have done other fun things and soon there will be a new grandson.
We have all begun making our predictions on the arrival date.
(I chose August 31st as the arrival date. He is due September 5th ...I just have a feeling.)
Well, have a happy Paint Party Friday!

Wonderful pieces! Great composition! I like how your art work is so unique!
ReplyDeleteI love both of these pieces, especially the first one. I so want to learn to do multi layers and make them look great.
ReplyDeleteOh wow Darla!!! these are amazing pieces....I love the way you layered everything!!! perfection!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks, ladies! Jenn, I appreciate that. Oh, Marlene and Diana, you should have seen this paper when I started the layering. I thought I would have to throw it away but just kept at it. When my granddaughter came in and added a line or two "helping me" her mother tried to run her off but I did not worry at all because who would notice her lines in my work. I even worked them in! It is fun!
ReplyDeleteI would love to learn layering. Beautiful work. Outstanding! Happy PPF!
ReplyDeleteThese are stunning!! That layering technique sounds so interesting!! (Are you in TX by chance - wondering if your hill country is the same as mine - I'm an Austinite!)
ReplyDeleteWonderful! I haven't read the post but I would love to. :) Keep us posted on the grandson arrival. :)
ReplyDeleteFantastic, Darla! I can't wait to read the story on the second painting! My work has been non serious lately too!Deb
ReplyDeleteThanks,again.
ReplyDeleteMarlene and Gloria:I will post a simple tutorial soon on the process. And then you just have to be brave and try it. I thought it was a piece of trash and then I began to pull out some little gems from the layers. It was like mining gold.
Jenn, my Austinite neighbor, yes, I am a Texan. I am a half hours drive south of San Antonio,my home town, in the country actually but Pleasanton. Austin is beautiful. I do have close relatives in your area.
And NatashaMay thanks, you will know when that little one gets here. I will have photos!
Thanks, Geckostone, you slipped in while I was responding to others. I can't wait to read that story either. Sometimes, it is a release NOT to be so serious. Lately, I have to remind myself to focus and be serious. But that will probably end when school starts.
ReplyDeleteWhat wonderful pieces... I love the look of all of those layers! I recently received 8 wine boxes full of old National Geographics, so I might have to give that a try!
ReplyDeleteI will be interested to see if your "feeling" for the date is the one :)
Enjoy the rest of your summer (you still have time to do the things you want to do) - Enjoy!
xo
